Confirmation

Confirmation is an important lifecycle event for Jewish teens that is tied to the Jewish holiday of Shavuot. It originated in the Reform Movement. Here at Temple Ahavat Shalom, our confirmation year takes place during ninth grade. In the years following Bar/Bat Mitzvah, students explore important ethical issues from a Jewish perspective and learn how Judaism approaches values and traditions, meeting weekly with Rabbi Matt.

This year of study concludes with a Confirmation Service that coincides with the festival of Shavout, which commemorates the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. The relationship between confirmation and Shavout is significant since the Torah contains Judaism’s most important teachings. The ceremony is highlighted by individual speeches in which students express their personal thoughts about the meaning of Judaism.
